About Missouri Fishing Laws

It's one of the best pastimes and something that people have been doing for thousands of years - fishing. Of course, there are regulations that have been placed on this hobby to help keep the fish populations preserved, and every state is going to have their own rules. In Missouri, you have to have your fishing license, but what is required to get it? Here at Village Marina, we want you to be able to have an amazing time out on your boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, so we have a few things for you to consider as you get your fishing license.

Fishing Laws in Missouri

Do you know how to determine which fish you've caught? What about the fishing regulations that are put in place for each type of fish? When fishing in Missouri, it's not only important but required to know these things. Each state will have a different set of regulations when it comes to fishing, and those are put into place not only to help protect the fish but for the future generations that want to enjoy this pastime.

Missouri Permit Obligations

If you accepting the responsibility of a Missouri Fishing license it means that you:
  • Agree to observe all the rules of the Wildlife Code.
  • Will not loan your permit to another.
  • Will allow inspection of your permit, picture identification, catch and equipment by an agent of the Conservation Department.
  • Will sign and carry your permit while fishing. If you purchased your permit by telephone and have not received it by mail, you must carry the permit authorization number and picture identification with you while fishing until your permit arrives.

About the Missouri Fishing License

There are three things to know about getting your fishing license in Missouri.

1. You can purchase your Missouri Fishing License (aka fishing permit) online, by phone, at the Department of Conservation offices, or from vendors throughout the state. That includes bait and tackle shops and sports goods stores.

2. Fishing licenses are effective from the date of purchase until the last day of February in the following year.

3. Before you purchase your Missouri fishing license, look into the different types of licenses or permits. There are different options offered for residents and non-residents.
