Clean Your Boat for Memorial Day Weekend

It’s time to get your boat ready for the big holiday weekend! There will be hundreds of boats on the Lake of the Ozarks for the big summer kickoff - and we want YOURS to look incredible. At Village Marina, we provide the best new boats at the Lake of the Ozarks, but even if you don’t buy a new boat this summer, there are a few things you can do to make your boat LOOK new for the holiday weekend.

1. Rinse

You’ll want to start by rinsing your watercraft. Spraying it down with clean water will help to remove any loose debris or grime from the surface. Start at the top of your boat and work your way down until you’ve reached the bottom. Be sure to look over the boat and make sure that all of the debris has been removed, and a good hose nozzle should do the trick, but a pressure washer would be even better.

2. Add Some Suds

After you’ve removed the loose pieces of debris and grim, it’s time to spend some time on the dirt that is harder to remove. Be sure to use a special boat cleaner, and get a good lather going on the outside of the boat. Make sure that you don’t allow the soap to dry on the surface of the boat. This could cause damage to the finish as well as leave horrible streaks. Start with small areas of your boat, and rinse the soap off as you go.

3. Buff

Now that your boat is good and clean, the outside of your boat should be looking pretty good - though maybe a little dull compared to when it was brand new. To bring back the shine, you can start buffing the surface. You can do this by hand or with a rotary buffer. This will remove oxidation and prepare the surface of the boat for the waxing stage.

4. Wax

Now you can add the showroom shine to your boat by applying wax to the surface. This will make it more attractive and protect the surface from debris and grime. Concentrate on small areas at a time, buffing off the wax as you go until the outside of your boat is gleaming and in pristine condition.

5. The Interior

Now that the outside of your boat is looking fantastic, it’s time to start on the inside. You can get specialized cleaning agents to help clean the upholstery, and other surfaces. Make sure that you’re using cleaning products that are made for your boat so that you don’t risk ruining the surfaces.

Time to Enjoy Your Efforts!

Now that your boat is looking squeaky clean, it’s time to enjoy the fruit of your labors and get that boat on the water for a test drive. You’ll want to make sure that your tank is full and ready for the weekend, so come out to Village Marina on mile marker 3 and visit our 24-hour gas dock at the Lake of the Ozarks! We look forward to seeing you, and helping you get ready for the holiday weekend.
